Nudie Jeans Gritty Jackson Soaked Neps

Regular fit jeans with a straight leg made from denim that consist of 50% pre-consumer recycled cotton and 50% organic cotton. These jeans have been treated a bit differently compared to how Nudie Jeans usually do - they are not dry nor rinsed. What Nudie Jeans have done is soaked them in water and left them to hang dry. This results in crinkled, slightly hairy denim with a dry hand, duller and bluer hue.

The benefit of a soak is that it generates jeans with a near-dry break-in potential. While the indigo dye slightly bleeds onto the white weft yarns the majority of the surface-bound indigo remains on the warp yarns. This generates the hairier, duller, and slightly bluer hue. During the soak the cotton absorbs water, making the yarns swell and skew - increasing the irregularity of the surface structure. This gives the jeans a slightly different aging property compared to dry denim. Wear will pronounce the irregularities giving the jeans a more textural aging property. Since the jeans are not rinsed and only allowed to absorb water, the starch remains on the denim. Starch is what makes denim generate sharp creases, it is at these creases that the most pronounced wear shows. The preservation of the starch is the main reason for soaked denim's near-dry break-in potential.
