The Watch cap carries a history that spans centuries, yet the version we recognize today is a more recent refinement, linking back to the iconic caps worn by U.S. Navy crews during WW2.
Introduced in the early 1940s by the U.S. Navy as part of a sailor's cold-weather uniform, the Watch cap got its name from being worn by sailors on 'watch duty' on the decks of ships. The label, often displayed on the outside, bore the wearer's name, contract number, and service number.
In the aftermath of WW2, military garments such as the Pea coat found their way into civilian wardrobes, appreciated for their functional details and adaptability. The Watch cap was among the more popular repurposed items, transcending its military roots and being reproduced in colors outside of the MIL-SPEC.
