Wool knit caps with the top of the head sewn round were adopted as headgear for deck hands who were exposed to cold winds at sea.
As the name "watch cap" implies, it was designed without a visor so that it would not get in the way of the crew's use of binoculars and other equipment to watch for and monitor the enemy.

Head circumference about 50cm, depth about 28cm.
