Samurai’s S211BK “Benkei” Relaxed Tapered style gets its name from Saitō Musashibō Benkei. Benkei was a rogue warrior monk said to have wandered Kyoto on a quest to defeat 1000 Samurai and claim their swords. He was a man of renowned strength, stature, and force of character - making him a fitting namesake for this formidably heavyweight denim.

The Benkei jean is cut from the brand’s flagship, 17oz “Bushido” denim. It’s a heavyweight selvedge fabric woven on antique shuttle looms using a mix of American and South American cotton. The low-tension weaving process provides plenty of loom chatter, creating a denim with remarkable texture and a pronounced hairiness. A 6x5 weave offsets the denim’s heft with some welcomed comfort and breathability, ensuring the jeans will yield and soften over time.
