The Real McCOY's Black Wabash Newsboy Cap (MA26010-030)

The Black Wabash Newsboy Cap takes on a piece of headwear that first became popular as a golf cap in the late 19th century and quickly became an integral part of workwear: newsboys, dockworkers, and craftsmen wore it, as did railroad workers, who found it a practical, robust alternative to the flat peaked cap.

The Wabash pattern of the fabric is in the same tradition of American railroad workwear: a fine dot pattern is applied to dark-dyed cotton using a discharge process, in which the dye is removed from the fabric in individual areas. This creates the characteristic speckled surface, which differs from a pure print due to its uneven structure embedded in the fabric.
