Utilitees 5.5oz Loopwheel Crew Neck T-Shirt – Coral Pink (UTIL-COR)

Knitted in Wakayama on 1980’s loopwheel machines, the 5.5oz Loopwheel Crew Neck T-Shirt from UTILITEES is 100% combed yarn cotton and offers a soft and comfortable feel. This particular model has been dyed using traditional processes that date back to the stone age, with the dye pigment derived from iron oxide found in the soil in the Okayama region of Japan. 



The hand-dyeing process itself is extensive and time-consuming. Firstly a plain white T-shirt is submerged into a vat of pigment dye and gently rubbed by hand to disperse the colour evenly. T-shirts are dyed individually, with each taking around 10 minutes. The garment is then left to dry naturally, before repeating these steps to ensure a strong colour. 

Whilst maybe not as vivid or vibrant as some industrial dying techniques, the resulting colour offers a very pleasing hue, displaying slight contrasts in tone and subtle marbling throughout the garment. Creating these unique colourways really is a labour of love — no two T-shirts will ever look exactly the same, and we think that's a good thing!
