Buzz Rickson's Herringbone Special Jacket – Olive (BR15887)
The herringbone twill adopted by the US Army was used for combat purposes and as protective clothing against gas.
The herringbone twill was made in a single color, olive drab, which offered high camouflage effectiveness. Herringbone Twill underwent four minor changes between 1941 and 1943.
The first pattern featured cuffed sleeves and pleated pockets on the chest, but from the second pattern onwards, these were replaced with larger, vertically elongated gusseted pockets, and the sleeve pattern was changed to a straight sleeve.
The third pattern features a metal button on the back of the collar for attaching and detaching the hood, and a gas flap was added to the inside of the placket to enhance airtightness and prevent the entry of poison gases.
The addition of this gas flap resulted in the label being marked "SPECIAL."
All patterns feature a front closure with 13 black-painted metal buttons. The spacing between the first and second buttons is wide, and when the first button is unbuttoned, it resembles a wide lapel, giving it a military uniform appearance.
