Samurai Jeans 15.8oz. "GL3" Selvedge Denim – Indigo (S510HXII)

GL3 is the reference number of the loom that powers the weaving of this new series, and in terms of history followed the beloved G3 shuttle looms in terms of timeline of Japanese Selvedge denim. The Toyoda (Toyota Automobile’s parent company) began the series with the groundbreaking innovation of the Toyota Model G Loom in 1924. Creating and patenting this coveted machine allowed for Toyota to license the technology of this shuttle loom which served as the financing to eventually start the Toyota car company in 1937.

The “G3” shuttle loom is renowned as being the first machine to weave Japanese Selvedge denim locally, and with further improvements and innovation came the direct successor, the “GL3” shuttle loom. Milled on these elusive looms, Samurai's latest denim embodies the raw, organic texture that only true vintage machinery can achieve. The fabric combines 100% Texas cotton warp yarns, rope-dyed to a deep, slightly blue-toned indigo reminiscent of 1950s denim, featuring Samurai’s homegrown “Samurai Cotton” weft. The result is a fabric full of neppy irregularities and a rugged hand feel that speaks to the authenticity of early denim craftsmanship.

Cut in Samurai’s Regular Straight silhouette, the fit offers a slightly higher rise and comfortable room through the top block, tapering subtly toward the hem for a timeless shape.
