Andersen-Andersen - The sweater that will outlive you (by Gleb)
Few clothing pieces are as classic as the fisherman sweater. As we know, most of our favorite garments come from either military or workwear and the fisherman sweater is exactly that, a mid-layer made to keep you nice and warm during your adventures in the sea.
It is believed, that the fisherman sweaters originated in the Aran Islands of Ireland in the early 1900s and were knitted by the women for their husbands to battle the harsh conditions of the waters.
Today we are taking a look at Andersen-Andersen and how Cathrine Lundgren-Andersen and her husband Peter Kjær-Andersen have created the perfect sweater or at least came very close to it.
The Andersen family was on a quest to create the world's best sweater by taking inspiration from a vintage fisherman sweater and making every single thing about it better. Their sweaters are made only from organic materials like cotton or wool. Cotton is light, breathable, and very comfortable to wear, while wool can be considered as a super-fabric, it is breathable, extremely warm and will even keep you toasty when completely wet, which is the reason it was originally used for such a tough task.
Their sweaters are designed in Denmark and made by the best knitters in Italy, so you can be sure, the construction on these is second to none. As for the details, Andersen-Andersen makes most of their models completely symmetrical, meaning you can wear both front and back sides identically, which is a feature found in the original fisherman sweaters so that seafarers could put them on in the dark of a boat cabin and not worry they did it wrong. Now, however, it makes the garment more long-lasting, as switching sides can reduce wear in a single spot like elbows. Keeping utility in mind, Andersen-Andersen includes thumb holes, to make your cold winter days a bit more bearable. Sticks your thumbs in them to ditch gloves or cuff them to keep the understated look.
We took a little look into the history, the construction, and the details, now let's find out how to wear these.
As it is an absolute classic of men's style, fisherman sweaters are extremely versatile. For a casual look, try to follow the steps of Steeve McQueen and rock a combination of a sweater with a baseball cap, this guy knew a thing or two about looking cool.

For a more sophisticated, yet rugged look, let's ask for help from another style icon, James Dean. Here he's wearing the sweater with a classic peacoat, keeping the aquatic theme and staying extremely warm.
